Drawdown Is a Budget, Not a Mood
A loss limit is a spending cap for being wrong. Treat it like rent: paid on schedule, not negotiated when you are already behind.
Hope is not a risk system. A drawdown budget is. You decide, in a calm hour, how much of the account a bad week is allowed to spend. Then you obey the number when the week is no longer calm.
This is the scutum in accounting form. The shield is not a prediction that you will not be hit. It is a design that keeps a hit from becoming a rupture.
Rails have jobs
A daily max loss exists because tilt compresses time. A weekly max loss exists because a series of “almost fine” days can still break an evaluation or a household plan. Write both. Wire both into the desk.
The breach protocol
When the rail trips, the only remaining task is shutdown: flatten if required, log the sequence, and leave. Analysis happens later. Repair trades are how budgets become fiction.
Challenge Gate
Funded evaluations are explicit about these rails. Students who treat them as suggestions fail for operational reasons while insisting the “edge” was fine. The edge is not fine if it cannot live inside the contract you signed.
Questions we hear next
Daily versus weekly limits — do I need both?
They catch different failures. A daily rail stops the spiral. A weekly rail stops the slow leak of “just one more decent day.” The Compounding Calculator can illustrate both.
What if I hit the rail during a good setup?
Then you are done. The rail is senior to the setup. This is the sentence funded accounts are designed around.
Is an 80% warning useful?
Yes. It is a chance to reduce size or stand aside before the hard stop. SCUTA’s tools surface that warning on purpose.
How do I pick the numbers?
From the losing-streak math in the Expectancy Simulator and from the evaluation rules if you are in a challenge. Do not pick a number that only works if you never see a cluster of losers.

R as the Unit of Account
Dollars flatter or frighten depending on account size. Measuring wins and losses in R keeps the review honest and the size conversation separate from the ego conversation.
Spotting Tilt in the Same Session
Tilt is not only rage. It is any state where the next click is trying to repair the last one. Learn the early tells and the shutdown script.
Size Before Story
Position size is the first decision that can keep an account alive. Forecast quality is a later conversation — and a less important one than most students think.
