Process Identity Over P&L Identity

If your self-worth tracks the day, you will manage the day instead of the rules. Build an identity around the work you can actually control.

Markets will score your account in public numbers. That is their job. Your job is to refuse the promotion of those numbers into a self.

SCUTA calls this process identity: you are the person who followed the page, sized the unit, and wrote the review. You are not the person who was up on Tuesday.

Why this is risk management

A trader who is their P&L will cut winners to “lock a good day” and add to losers to “not be wrong.” Those are not mysterious pathologies. They are identity defense.

Language in the journal

Replace “I was an idiot” with “I broke rule 3.” Replace “I’m a genius” with “the sample includes a +2.4R outlier.” The language keeps the shield between you and the print.

Teaching point

This is why SCUTA does not sell a masked persona or a mythic narrator. The work is institutional even when the desk is one person: procedures, records, capital protection.

Questions we hear next

Isn’t profit the point?

Profit is the outcome of a repeatable process plus a market that pays that process. Making it the identity guarantees you will abandon the process on the first ugly week.

How do I practice process identity?

Score the session on rule adherence first. Cash is a second line. Share the first line with a peer if you can. Documentation is how identity becomes visible.

What about funded-account pressure?

The evaluation is a constraint, not a personality. Challenge Gate is operations. If you fuse your worth to a pass/fail email, you will press.

Does this mean I should not care?

Care about the craft. Indifference is not the goal. Fusion is the problem.
