Diamond Hands
Slang for holding a position through severe volatility and drawdowns with conviction — the opposite of paper hands, for better or worse.
Diamond hands is the inverse of paper hands: holding through gut-wrenching drawdowns without selling, on the strength of an original thesis or sheer conviction. Diamonds do not crack under pressure.
Held with discipline it is a virtue — it keeps a trader in a winner long enough for the thesis to pay. Held blindly it is just stubbornness: refusing to sell a loser because selling makes the loss real, riding a broken position all the way down because "holding" became an identity rather than a decision.
The distinction is the invalidation level. Conviction is holding through noise that does not touch your thesis; stubbornness is holding after the thesis is broken. Diamond hands only beat paper hands when the thesis is still intact.
